Recently someone asked me what might be the most important question of all. I no longer think much about prayer for reasons that will become clear to you below, but Denise’s question wonderfully captures the conundrum that many sincere people face:

“Angels, spirit guides, dead loved ones, God.  If we need help, to whom do we pray?  Sometimes I think God is pretty busy and maybe I shouldn’t bother him but I worry if I don’t do it right, it won’t work out.  Frankly, most of my praying is begging which I know is the wrong way.”

We are taught to think of God as a religious figure, and of prayer as a religious act; and since religious are fear-based superstitions, we tend to fret that we might do it wrong. We don’t want to use incorrect words, to irritate or harass a busy God, or even to offend some spirit we should be praying to instead of directly to God. And if we do it wrong, what might happen to us then?

Before we can begin to talk about prayer, we first must set the stage. Just what is God, anyway? And what is prayer?

God is all that exists. We know now based upon abundant evidence that the only thing that exists is an infinitely powerful energy-like potentiality without size or form, alive in the sense that your mind is alive, intensely loving and therefore probably self-aware. That is what God is! And nothing whatsoever except God exists. Everything else that we think of as real is an illusion being continuously manifested by God, and that includes space and time. So God is eternal, by definition. And fortunately, each human mind is part of God, so our minds are also real and eternal (Whew!).

One of the most confounding things about studying the afterlife is getting our minds around the fact of reincarnation. And it is a fact. Much as I have tried not to think about it, given my traditional Christian background, the evidence is overwhelming and consistent that each of us lives many earth-lives. Jesus taught it, the dead affirm it, and those who are so inclined can undergo past-life regressions or future-life progressions and meet their own past or future selves.

The actual mechanics of reincarnation are impossible for us to get our minds around while we are in earth-bodies. This is partly because while we are here we can consciously access perhaps as little as ten percent of our vast and powerful eternal minds; and partly because we still lack a deep understanding of the non-material realities. We are left to try to put a sense of it together, while knowing that what we envision isn’t likely to be quite what happens. You will see what I mean!

Here are eight important elements to aid you in thinking about reincarnation:

Our minds are part of the infinitely loving eternal Mind which is all that exists. We are of the very stuff of God! And since that is the case, our eternal minds are more complex and powerful than our limited earth-minds can imagine.

Time is not objectively real. It exists only in this material universe, which is less than five percent of what even mainstream scientists know is real. Getting my mind around all that it means for time not actually to exist is for me the hardest part of this process.

The Democratic candidate in Michigan’s 8th District Race had assumed that her campaign for Congress would be built around pocketbook issues such as the rising cost of health care, stagnant wages and unaffordable college tuition.” Instead, her campaign events are “therapy sessions.” “Voters say they are tired of the anger and polarization emanating from Washington. They say they crave compromise. Yet these same voters view the rival party with disdain and frequently punish politicians for reaching across partisan lines. They want the anger to stop but can’t stop being angry.”

 The two malignant centers of righteous indignation in the United States are politics and religion. American politics has devolved from what once was a cordial biennial sport into continuous all-out warfare! As one of Ms. Slotkin’s supporters said, “How do you deal with friends and family that are constantly posting things that are not accurate or that go blatantly against what you believe?” How, indeed?

America’s Founders warned us against allowing political parties to form. George Washington said it best: “However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.” It was as if he could foresee today!

When you study America’s racial problems, you find that all of them were caused by politically-motivated blunders over the past two centuries. Every one of them. Seeing how that tragedy unfolded has made me realize that politics has to be the worst way to manage any country! It isn’t only that political fighting can poison our personal relationships; and it isn’t so much that having political parties makes it easier for George Washington’s posited “cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men” to seize power. No, the worst thing about having political parties is the way their battling obscures the facts and makes wise decision-making nearly impossible.

One of the questions that the afterlife evidence answers for us has long been a stumper. Why do bad things happen to good people? Atheists sometimes use the question as proof that there can be no loving God, while even those who are very religious will sometimes fret and question their beliefs as they try to answer it. But when we answer the question from the point of view of the afterlife evidence, we find that it all makes perfect sense. A lifetime on earth is just a hard day in school.

As is true whenever you research any real phenomenon, studying nearly 200 years of abundant and consistent communications from the dead shows us more than the fact that our minds are eternal and death is an easy, joyous passage. It gives us a lot of information about what the afterlife is like, and also – wonderfully – it tells us a lot about the meaning and purpose of human life.

Having talked last week about how it feels to die, let’s consider now the experience of being at the bedside of someone you love who is about to embark on that universal journey. Of course, some deaths are going to feel tragic. People who die unexpectedly or out of generational order are likely to distress their loved ones by the very act of dying. Life can hold so much pain! Please know, though, that the afterlife evidence overwhelmingly indicates that:

1)    Virtually all deaths are planned. We plan our lives before we are born in conjunction with our spirit guides and with those who will be important in this lifetime and their guides, and as part of that process we plan in two or three exit-points that our higher consciousness can choose to take once we have done as much as we can do in terms of learning and growing in this lifetime. There is a lot of evidence that even what seem to be accidental deaths are planned exit points. Death is almost never a real accident.

2)    Dying is a pleasant and joyous experience. Of course, as I admit in my previous blog post, getting to the point of death can be rough, but the death process itself is gentle and enjoyable. If a body seems to be dying in pain, there is plentiful evidence that the mind is already happily out of that body and doesn’t feel its pain. All really is well! So even though it is difficult to be losing a loved one, don’t worry about the person who is dying.

3)    Nobody ever dies anyway! Our minds are part of eternal mind. We never began and we never will end, so the death of the body makes amazingly little difference to the person going through the experience.

After a supernatural experience at the age of eight I have spent most of my leisure time in two parallel pursuits: exhaustively studying the afterlife evidence, and reading the Christian Bible repeatedly. This is such an odd combination of interests that I may be the only person on earth with the knowledge and experience to compare what the dead have to say about God, reality, death, the afterlife, and the meaning and purpose of human life with the actual Gospel words of Jesus.

And the greatest discovery of my life has been the fact that the dead agree with Jesus! In amazing detail. How wonderful is that? We can demonstrate now that Jesus is real, and that He must have come directly from God because He knew things two thousand years ago that He never could have known otherwise. Wow.

Those that we used to think were dead have a lot to say about Christianity too, and here the news is not supportive. These are some of the many things that we learn from people now in a position to know:

  • There is no anthropomorphic God. In fact, the only thing that actually exists is what you and I experience as consciousness, which is what Jesus called the Holy Spirit. This genuine God never takes human form, and it has no human failings of the sort that Christians feel the need to ascribe to their God.

Despite extensive evidence that human consciousness is primary and it pre-exists the universe, mainstream scientists still believe that nothing exists that is not material. They are certain that your mind, your personality, all that you are is generated entirely by your brain, so when you die your mind will blink out like a light.

All of this is nonsense, of course. For your material brain to generate your mind is flat-out impossible. But because materialism is a “fundamental dogma” of modern physics, it still permeates all of mainstream science. And it leads researchers to propose ever more lunatic projects. I’ll give you three that have lately come across my desk, and then we’ll talk about some reasons why we can be certain that our brains do not generate our minds.

1) Mind Uploading Will Replace God. The notion that soon we will be digitally uploading the minds that are generated by our meat-brains so we can survive our physical deaths is so deeply nutty that even after having read this article three times I still cannot figure out the sense of it. “Being able to upload our entire minds into a computer is probably just 25-35 years off given Moore’s Law and the current trajectory of technology growth and innovation” the author confidently informs us. How is this possible, when scientists are sure that your mind is just an artifact of your meat-brain? The author says only, “mind uploading is generally considered possible by experts. After all, humans are just material machines, striving to create other machines that mirror ourselves and desires. Ah yes. We’ll translate all the information in your brain into bits and make a copy of you online. But what about your individual awareness? Your emotions? Your sense of being who you are? No mention of how we’re going to transfer all of that. And once this miracle of uploading our minds is achieved? “Expect a much more utopian society for whatever social structures end up existing in virtual reality and cyberspace. But also expect the real world to radically improve.”Utopia!

2) Thoughts Being Transmitted by Brain-to-Brain Link. In the strictly material world of mainstream science, it is very big news that a readout from someone’s brain can now be interpreted by someone else. “Using noninvasive means, researchers made brain recordings of a person in India thinking the words “hola” and “ciao,” and then decoded and emailed the messages to France, where a machine converted the words into brain stimulation in another person, who perceived the signals as flashes of light. From the sequence of flashes, the French recipient was able to successfully interpret the greetings.”What a great mess of trouble just to say “hello”!

What is consciousness? Where does it come from? What does it do? Even a decade and a half into the twenty-first century, mainstream scientists still insist that consciousness has to come from the brain.

 But your consciousness is not generated by your brain. We have discussed elsewhere the many reasons why you can be certain that this is true. By now it is well established that human consciousness pre-exists the universe and is inextricably a part of the Source energy that manifests everything that we think of as real. Your brain, as important as it seems, is nothing more than the way that your eternal consciousness connects to your body during this brief lifetime.

The evidence that all of this is true is consistent and overwhelming. But mainstream scientists have a problem. Still bound by the century-old “fundamental dogma” of materialism, they dare not look at the evidence objectively. They cannot even consider the possibility that consciousness might be anything other than an artifact generated by the brain.

One Nicholas Humphrey, who is emeritus professor of psychology at the London School of Economics and a professor at Darwin College, Cambridge, describes in a recent article in Scientific American Mind the conundrum being faced by true believers. I’m going to do something unusual here and quote extensively from his article, since it so profoundly sums up the Gordian knot into which mainstream science has tied itself by insisting that matter has to be material.

A friend who often comments here has asked me why in this series of posts I have talked about the United States alone, when in his view it is time for Americans to become good citizens of all the world. He is precisely right! Imagine a world that has become one neighborhood, everyone watching out for everyone else, where all of humankind is united in love and we are far beyond any kind of war. But if that is the goal, how on earth can we get there?

Ever since the end of World War I, well-meaning people have wanted to put into place some sort of worldwide governance that might be able to end all wars. Not only have these efforts come to naught, but a case can be made that they actually have sharpened existing divisions among nations. The problem with our attempts to unite the world has been the fact that every one of them has been top-down! Uniting the world’s governments can be of little help if our real goal is to unite the world’s people.

 The United Nations is typical. The U.N. is an assembly of governments, many of which are frank dictatorships. No attempt is made by the U.N. to lessen the depredations of the world’s worst rulers, so far from uplifting the people of the world, the United Nations gives legitimacy and support to tyrants who oppress and destroy. The U.N. might prevent a war or two, but in refusing to insist on basic human rights it makes the conditions of many still worse.

As is true of politics and religion, coalitions of governments are primarily about controlling and impoverishing people. No matter the good intentions with which political, religious, and world organizations might begin to do their work, soon they are all about funneling power and money into the hands of a few. All you need to know about Christianity is that the Catholic Church is worth at least $130 billion now, the Mormon Church is worth $200 billion, and even the Church of England is worth $7.8 billion. In America, successful politicians routinely amass great personal wealth; and even Yasser Arafat, the Palestinian hero, died a billionaire! Every bit of all this money gathered into hands at the very top came from the labor of masses of people who had been coerced into yielding it up. Thomas Jefferson memorably said that no government should “take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned,” but these numbers make a mockery of that wish! No assembly organized on the top-down model can be of any use to us as we work to build a healthier and more sustainable future for all the world.

No sooner had I shared with you my insight that the Gospel words suggest the Lord meant to abolish the notion of sin than I realized there was another thing He seems to have meant to consign to history. This one is a harder call, so I wondered if I should mention it now; but I have come to see as I have written this for you that perhaps this further stumbling-block is even worse than fear-based sin as a barrier to our spiritual growth!

Jesus meant to raise in us a dissatisfaction with religious faith, and to teach us instead to seek and find a more solid spiritual certainty.What else can He have meant when He said, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened” (MT 7:7-8)?

My difficulty in trusting the evidence that Jesus spoke against religious faith seems mostly to have stemmed from the fact that He used the word “faith” or “faithful” so often, and in three different ways:

  • He used the term as a synonym for loyal and steadfast service. For example, He quoted a master as saying, “Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master” (MT 25:21). And He said, “He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much” (LK 16:10).

I came across Alf J. Mapp Jr.’s Thomas Jefferson – A Strange Case of Mistaken Identity in a bookstore one day in 1988, and I was taken with the title. My law practice was in hiatus because my housekeeper had been arrested for drunken driving with my young son in the back seat of her car, and I was looking for something substantial to read. I loved the book, and I fell in love with the earnest young man who was its subject, so I wrote Dr. Mapp my first-ever fan letter. Soon we were phone friends. It was obvious from the book that my new hero had been desperately in love with his wife, but Dr. Mapp told me that since Thomas Jefferson had burned all their letters and all her papers, nobody knew anything about Martha. I told him idly that – what the heck – I was going to figure her out and re-create her journal. My Virginia gentleman friend graciously urged me to do that. I remember saying as we talked about it, “But I don’t know anything about colonial Virginia! I can’t even describe how someone would walk into a room.” He told me that gave me an interesting challenge. And so it did.

I wrote My Thomas more than twenty years ago, but I remember the process vividly. I wanted first to see where Thomas and Martha had lived, so we took a family vacation to Williamsburg and began the drive up to Monticello. We were derailed by an auto accident in Richmond. Not deterred, I soon spent a week in Charlottesville and had a private tour of Monticello as if I were an actual scholar, and for day after day I sat and transcribed Thomas Jefferson’s letters and papers and account books. I had to do it in longhand. They would allow neither the photocopying of original documents nor the use of a typewriter in their quiet library, and this was long before laptop computers. The ipad was not yet a gleam in Steve Jobs’s eye.

Spending a week reading Thomas Jefferson’s handwriting in the actual ink in which he placed it on the page, seeing his patient notations of what he had been doing, what he had spent, what he owed to which slave, and what he had been thinking was an unforgettable experience for me.Being surrounded by extraordinarily warm and gracious Virginians who spoke with an accent that was probably a lot like his own made me feel still closer to the man.

Nobody at Monticello knew much about Martha, but I was told that she had died of tuberculosis. Someone had written a definitive paper. I waited to read that paper until I had transcribed my whole thirteen years of Jefferson’s life with Martha, then I asked to see the paper that proved that Martha had died of tuberculosis. What I was given was an exhaustive study of Jefferson’s illnesses and treatments throughout his life. As I recall, the last sentence of it was, “And as for Martha, what could she have died of but tuberculosis?” That pretty well sums up the attitude of historians toward Martha Jefferson. We can’t know much, so we have to assume that she didn’t matter much.

There are many glorious fruits to come from finally understanding what we are, but to my mind the greatest benefit is that it frees you from fear altogether. 

Fear is pervasive in the modern world. We fear natural disasters and terrorism, cancer and accidents and nuclear war, alien invasions, our loved ones’ deaths, job loss, ebola, and simultaneously global warming and an overdue ice age. Apparently billionaire Elon Musk even fears the advent of killer robots.

The Armageddon that Mr. Musk fears would be brought on by artificial intelligence run amok. As he is quoted in the Washington Post article linked above:

The leading AI companies have taken great steps to ensure safety. They recognize the danger, but believe that they can shape and control the digital superintelligences and prevent bad ones from escaping into the Internet. That remains to be seen… This is not a case of crying wolf about something I don’t understand. I am not alone in thinking we should be worried.”

It seems that to be human is to be afraid.

One of the few trained scientists making a career in studying the greater reality is Rupert Sheldrake. His curiosity about all the many phenomena that spring from the fact that reality is based in consciousness has greatly enhanced our understanding of oddities ranging from the sense of being stared at and the fact that dogs can anticipate their owners’ arrival to the astonishing way in which for one laboratory animal anywhere on earth to learn something new makes it easier for all other members of the same species to master the same trick.

All of reality is consciousness-based. All higher living things are connected by mind. The fact that most traditional scientists remain stuck in a clockwork view of reality that is based in the dogma of atheistic materialism does nothing whatsoever to change what us true, but it only renders useless a lot of the scientific research that is being done today. And it ensures that when eventually the longstanding scientific walls against the truth are breached, a lot of the scientists working now are going to look ridiculous.

I must apologize. I have been cowardly about saying this for far too long. Friends have insisted to me that I can’t talk about abortion because I will lose the respect of the very people I want most to help; but this post is just like all the other posts here. There are truths being hidden from you, you have the right to be aware of those truths, and I am wrong if I am tempted to foster your ignorance just because some topics make me squeamish.

I must say, too, that I’m not writing this because a football star has lately shared some facts about Margaret Sanger that should appall us all. I don’t write from a religious perspective, nor even from a political perspective, and I never will attack your right to choose. I write today just as someone who is a student of the afterlife evidence and a student of American history, and who has spotted parallels that make me wish that people three hundred years ago had had enough knowledge to be able to really articulate why slavery was so wrong. Stopping that train before it got started would have spared us so much pain! And perhaps pointing out that out of ignorance we are repeating an eighteenth-century mistake might mean that this time around there can be a gentler and more positive outcome. So, here goes.

Abortion in modern America is what slavery was before the American Civil War. The analogy isn’t perfect, but it’s close. Here are some of the things that were said about slavery at a time when honorable people of good will could say these things out of plain ignorance:

  • Black people are not really people.
  • Black people cannot take care of themselves.
  • Free men have a right to use their own property without government interference.
  • Slaves are needed to get the work done; there is no practical alternative.

A vile plague of fear, anger, and hatred increasingly oppresses the world, and it especially bedevils the United States. What may not be obvious at first is the fact that most of what is behind all this strife is people’s adamantly held and forcefully expressed personal beliefs. In other words, their righteous indignation. Because these emotions feel righteous to us, we are sure expressing them must be a virtue! And indignation is anger at injustice. What could be a more saintly emotion than wholehearted righteous indignation?

Well, as it turns out, just about everything.

Righteous indignation is the primary source of all the negativity that now plagues our world! I will give you two examples from today’s news. Once you begin to look for it, though, you will see that it is everywhere:

  • The Pope now blames the thousands of childhood victims of clergy sexual abuse for the sin of calling out their abusers. Reading his words feels like entering a parallel universe! “Among us is the great accuser, who always goes to accuse us before God, in order to destroy us. Satan … The only legitimate accusation that we Christians have is to accuse ourselves. For others there is only mercy.” So for victims to work to purify their religion of its horrific and widespread sexual abuse means they are aligning themselves with Satan?
  • A biology teacher in my grandson’s high school has been suspended for verbally abusing a student. Apparently the student did nothing to provoke her, but only knowing his political views made her feel compelled to taunt him. “Hey, Trumpy, do you have an answer to this?” and “What do you think, Trumpy?” She actually added, “By the way, I hate Donald Trump with a burning passion and he is a complete douchebag.”

Do you see what these news stories have in common?

I guest frequently on radio programs, and some recent hosts have ask me to address the suicide of Robin Williams with the hope that I can comfort the many people who love that beautiful man. I love him, too. But I have little comfort to give to radio listeners, and I don’t plan to discuss his passing on my own weekly program, Seek Reality. The best news that the afterlife evidence offers to us about suicide is that it is not all bad news.

To understand why killing yourself never is a good idea, it is important to know a few basic things. Briefly:

1)    The chance to learn on earth is a gift. We are told that there are many more people wanting to live an earth-life than there are bodies to accommodate them, and we who are here are the fortunate ones who were given this phenomenal opportunity.

2)    We plan our lives. In close cooperation with our guides and with those who will be important in our lives and their guides, each of us writes a pre-birth plan. We cannot say for certain that every bad thing that happens in our lives is planned, but the evidence is strong that we eagerly plan to have bad things happen so we can grow spiritually. An easy life is like an easy gym session: it doesn’t build much spiritual muscle.

Recently I received an email from the granddaughter of an American slave who asked a distressing question. She said that people of her race are too often thwarted in life, and she asked me whether racial differences are “a joke from God.” She especially wanted to know whether in the afterlife everyone would be equal. Her question is heartbreaking, but its answer is thrilling.

Each human mind is a powerful and eternal part of the Mind of God. Minds have no racial characteristics whatsoever.Furthermore:

  • The evidence is strong that nearly all of us live many earth-lifetimes. Most of us seem to live at least one lifetime of each race, although we favor one race and one general culture for most of our lifetimes. Apparently this makes our adjustment to each new lifetime easier, so it lets us concentrate on our planned lessons with fewer distractions.
  • Dealing with the issues raised by superficial differences among people can give us powerful opportunities for learning to better love and forgive. Evidence suggests that those whose present lifetimes include racial or cultural issues planned those situations as important spiritual lessons.

Spiritual growth is the whole point of our lives, and giving us a place to grow spiritually seems to be the reason why the universe exists. Until now, Western religious and philosophical teachings have not focused specifically on spiritual growth, so the most effective methods of which we have been aware have all come out of Eastern traditions. And few Westerners have the interest or the patience to engage in some of the more complicated practices that Eastern teachings require! The program outlined in the Gospels, however, is simple. It requires neither meditation nor yoga – no chanting or gurus – and it can begin to be effective within weeks. I urge you to try it! Elevating your personal vibration has the power to make you the happiest that you can be.

Five years ago I began an experiment in radio and podcasting that is central to my life in ways more important than the considerable time that it takes. I am only now becoming aware of the extent to which Seek Reality has shaped my life.

  • I have met so many great experts! Some of the authors and researchers I first met when I invited them to be interview guests have become my dear friends and beloved fellow laborers in the field of establishing what is true.
  • I have many friends, too, that I may never meet. Since I encourage communications from listeners, I hear from people every day. Some have questions, some want to add to what a guest has said or to make points based upon their own research, and some simply want to give me a hug and receive a hug in return.
  • My work has broadened to encompass my broadcast name. When Cameron Steele, the head of ctrnetwork.com, asked me what I wanted to call my program, the right name came to mind at once: “Seek Reality.” “What??” He had thought of me as an afterlife researcher! My answer to him felt automatic: “Studying the afterlife is just one part of what we all should be doing, which is trying to understand what is going on.” I heard myself say it. Then I realized that of course it was true, but frankly until that moment it never had occurred to me that seeking to understand reality was my actual mission.

One of the primary indications that what the dead have been telling us is true is the fact that the study of the afterlife turns out to be giving us a whole new physics. It isn’t about death at all. Instead, it is the next stage of quantum physics, the end toward which medical practice is tending, the answers to astronomers’ greatest questions, and the final retort to anthropologists who consider people to be just apes. It is the brand-new physics that physicists have been struggling to assemble for a hundred years. It’s a Consciousness Theory of Everything that seems to solve the biggest problems in modern science.

Because this is a new foundational science – it’s the third great physics, beyond Newton and Planck – for those few of us who have figured it out enough to understand what the dead are revealing, it makes popular science magazines lots of fun. Scientific American and Discoverare my favorites. They are full of accounts of the groping that frustrated scientists still are doing, trying ever more desperately to make insanely complicated and ultimately ridiculous theories make sense. We can see where they are going wrong. We can guess at the eventual solutions to their problems that will be documented only when physicists at last take over from hobbyists the thrilling new study of consciousness-based physics.

All the current scientific foolishness would be pass-the-popcorn time if it were not so tragic. The plain fact that physicists are trying not to be too plain about is that none of their theories for unifying Newtonian physics with quantum physics have panned out. The Great Hadron Collider was their best shot. And except for finding what they believe is the Higgs Boson – apparently found now, but still inexplicable – they have been unable to find any of the particles that all their grand unifying theories have predicted.

As you know if you have been reading these blog posts, the third wave of physics isn’t complicated. It’s simple. In recent weeks I have been sharing with you modern science’s stupidest problems, together with possible third-wave-of-physics answers. As I hear from readers, I find that these discussions are resonating with you, so here for your delectation are three basic third-wave observations based upon what the dead are telling us:

To be a physicist in the early twenty-first century looks like the most frustrating job in the universe. I say this because being even a devoted physics groupie reading popular-science versions of what physicists are up to now feels mind-shriveling. I will give you some quick examples from the recent press:

Apparently the Big Bang, now thoroughly engrained in our minds as the way the universe started, isn’t such a sure thing anymore. Perhaps the universe instead is in a steady state. To quote a summary of a recent paper on phys.org“In physical terms, the (steady state) model describes the universe as being filled with a quantum fluid. The scientists propose that this fluid might be composed of gravitons—hypothetical massless particles that mediate the force of gravity. If they exist, gravitons are thought to play a key role in a theory of quantum gravity.” (My emphasis.)

Time is one of the few things that everyone on earth experiences, but for physicists it is still a mystery. To quote a recent puzzling article in my beloved Scientific American“Whether through Newton’s gravitation, Maxwell’s electrodynamics, Einstein’s special and general relativity or quantum mechanics, all the equations that best describe our universe work perfectly if time flows forward or backward… Of course the world we experience is entirely different….” 

Physicists are attempting to study dark matter, which is called “dark” only because it won’t interact with photons of light. They tell us that everything that we think of as real makes up only 4-5% of the universe, while dark matter makes up 23-27%. (Apparently estimates vary.) So in an effort to study a mass which is five times the size of the known universe, physicists are looking for wimps thousands of feet beneath the surface of the earth. This time we’re reading The Wall Street Journal“A wimp—a weakly interacting massive particle—is thought to be the stuff of dark matter, an invisible substance that makes up about a quarter of the universe but has never been seen by humans.” I have talked previously about the fact that dark matter is a candidate to be the afterlife levels of reality, and there are physicists who speculate that it might be an actual inhabited reality. But rather than investigating either of these theories, physicists are spending billions of dollars investigating the unlikely possibility that five-sixths of the matter in the universe is a fluff of particles constituting nothing.

The foolish adherence of mainstream science to the false dogma of materialism is now more than a century old. And materialism has brought us so much pain! It has forced brilliant scientists to waste their careers in pursuing baseless dead-end theories while it continues to keep humankind in unnecessary ignorance and fear.

The damage caused by that dogma of materialism is evident across all of scientific inquiry, from the diagnosis and treatment of disease through our efforts to better understand the cosmos. But perhaps the field in which it is most patently ridiculous is neuroscience, were yet more careers are being wasted in the expensive study of nothing much.

The fact that the human mind can function independently of the brain is at this point established beyond question. There are so many well-documented cases of out-of-body travel that include observations that would not have been possible if the mind had not been separate from its brain. Every scientist must by now be aware of them! Near-death experiences? The pioneering work being done at The Monroe Institute? Prominent NDE-er Eben Alexander is himself a neurosurgeon, for heaven’s sake! The fact that every neuroscientist must know that evidence has been reported which suggests that the mind is not generated by the brain has to be our ironic backdrop as we consider two examples of what passes for modern scientific inquiry:

Do You Have Free Will? If we study only the brain, then it is obvious that free will is an illusion. To quote an article that sums up recent experimental results, our minds appear to be making decisions before we’re actually aware of them — and at times by a significant degree.” Well, sure. As afterlife research abundantly indicates, and as quantum physicist Max Planck said a century ago, human minds must necessarily pre-exist matter. When you take a brief stint in a material body, you leave most of your eternal mind behind as a kind of super-consciousness that your awareness cannot access while it is attached to a brain. The extent to which your decisions are made beyond your awareness for efficiency’s sake is a topic for another day, but it is patently clear that most bodily decisions are made beyond our conscious ken. Imagine how inefficient our lives would be if we had to consciously deliberate about which muscles to activate, and in which order, every time we wanted to stand from a chair and go and fetch a book from a bookcase! There are important inquiries to be made into the ways in which our super-conscious minds interact with our brains, but scientists can do none of that research while they still willfully mischaracterize the mind.

I often urge my audiences to subscribe to Scientific American.When I add that it’s really a humor magazine, the room will generally erupt in laughter so most people don’t hear my explanation of why I find the magazine so amusing. Scientific American actually is funny, but in a tragic sort of way: more and more, popular science literature is full of articles about enigmas  that scientists still cannot solve, the sad reconfirming of facts that they hate, and quirky investigations into nothing much that they must know will lead nowhere. Even that revered old saw of mainstream science, the replicable experiment, appears to have fallen victim to the sloppy despair of a profession by now so deep in crisis that more than two-thirds of scientific researchers cannot replicate other scientists’ experiments.

The cause of this growing malaise remains the fundamental scientific dogma of materialism that was put into place by scientific gatekeepers a century ago and to this day is enforced. Of course, anything based on a dogma has essentially become a religion, with all the need to enforce orthodoxy and to ignore contrary information that any faith-based system implies. To this day, no one who wishes to pursue a scientific career in any western university, or be published in a western peer-reviewed journal, can dream of investigating anything that might hint that reality is not matter-based; and this remains true despite the fact that quantum physicists have known for three-quarters of a century that, as the great Max Planck frankly put it, “There is no matter as such.” He said in 1931, ”I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness. We cannot get behind consciousness. Everything that we talk about, everything that we regard as existing, postulates consciousness.”

Consciousness is by definition not material, but yet those who hope to have careers in science must to this day eschew the investigation of consciousness as anything but an artifact of our brains. They can only conclude that there is something about matter that must inevitably give rise to consciousness. This dogma-based scientific requirement that matter must be primary was proven to be wrong almost a century ago, which is the reason why modern scientific inquiry has by now become so sadly hilarious.
